Original Story:
Special school teacher Edward Thompson
of Torquay is planning a marathon 10-day walk at Easter to raise money
for Dream-A-Way.
Edward, 53, a veteran Ten Tors manager with over 20 years experience preparing youngsters with special needs for the annual Jubilee Challenge event on Dartmoor, is planning a marathon 10-day walk at Easter to raise money for Dream-A-Way, a local charity that provides holidays and outings for disabled people of all ages in Devon and Cornwall.
A self-confessed Dartmoor addict, Edward is planning on climbing a minimum of 100 Tors in his 10-day trek, starting out from Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Monday April 2nd, and walking in a clockwise direction, taking in some of the most barren parts of the moor, and arriving back in Widecombe on Wednesday April 11th.

Edward, at Tunhill Rocks preparing for his challenge.
Highlights of the grand tour will include popular Tors such as Haytor Rocks, Hound Tor, Sheepstor and Hameldown as well as the more remote Naker’s Hill, Rough Tor, Watern Tor and Wild Tor. The trek, which may well allow Edward to reach as many as 150 Tors if weather permits, will also take him to High Willhays, the highest point on Dartmoor.
Although camping out for the duration of the challenge, Edward will be seeking refuge in a different Dartmoor inn each evening (see attached schedule) where he would welcome being joined by anyone who would like to share a drink and offer moral support, as well as getting first hand updates on his progress.
Edward would also like to extend an invitation to any serious walkers out there who would like to join him for a day’s walking.
Edward has set himself a target of £1000 to raise for Dream-A-Way, and the trek has the full backing of the committee who will be lending their support throughout the challenge.
