The 15th Annual MITIE / Dream-A-Way Golf Classic 2010

The beautifully manicured
Oaks Championship Course at
Woodbury Park Hotel & Golf Club played host to the Fifteenth Annual
MITIE / Dream-A-Way Golf Classic on Friday 3rd September 2010.
The charity’s Woodbury Park Golf days even before this
year’s event have raised in excess of £100,000 which represents one tenth
of their first million pounds- a fundraising landmark reached in February
of this year.
Twenty seven teams enjoyed a Full English Breakfast before setting out to
compete in both individual and Stableford events. The competition was
fierce to finish top and enjoy the spoils of an excellent prize table
presented by Gill and David Freeman and featuring a range of fantastic
items including impressive trophies, rare Masters merchandise and the top
prize of a Golfing holiday in Andalucia for four people.
The weather was kind once again and in addition to enjoying a great round
of Golf, participants were treated to challenges, displays and advice from
renowned trick shot golfer Jeremy Dale. Later in the day, as the last of
the fading sun was warming the terrace, Jeremy wowed the audience with his
superb trick shot display, the likes of which would put many pros to
shame.
Following the display, a helicopter ball drop was held on the 18th
Green, where 100 balls were dropped from a height with the winner being
the person with the closest numbered ball to the hole. With a top prize of
an HD LCD Television on offer, everyone was keen to hear the announcement
of the winner!
A delicious two course meal followed along with entertainment from Claude
the Comedy Waiter and Magician Simon Leach mingling with guests.
As is Dream-A-Way tradition, Fun Bingo followed the meal with a fantastic
Woodbury Park Hotel package to the winner,
before the grand unveiling of
the winners for the day.
The first placed lady, winning a prestigious trophy and an assortment of
prizes kindly donated by David Freeman was Kath Davidson with 37 points.
The first placed man, winning the perpetual trophy and a plasma screen
television kindly donated by Chris Hatherly from Eurosat was Simon Kirby
with 38 points.
Competition was close, but the eventual team winners with a superb score
of 89 points (and a better back 9) were the
Proform team from Newton Abbot
who won the M J Stevens Trophy, unique glass trophies and the holiday to
Andalucia.
They were followed closely in second place by The Brady Bunch
with 89 points (losing on the back 9!) and Eurosat Distribution in third
with 85 points.
After the prize presentations, guests had the
opportunity to bid on some truly rare items such as signed sports
memorabilia, a day with Jeremy Dale and an extremely rare ticket to the
2011 Masters in Augusta.
Other entertainment included a Dream-A-Way special Silent Auction and a
raffle organised by Dream-A-Way committee member Bernice Woodhead.
On display throughout the day was a beautiful Morgan car from Berrybrook
Motors, generous sponsors of Dream-A-Way, and two top of the range Kia
cars. Supporters of Dream-A-Way can hire a Morgan from Berrybrook or can
book their car (any make) in for servicing, MOT or repairs at a special
price, and when mentioning Dream-A-Way Berrybrook will make a donation to
the charity.
The event raised a fantastic total in the region of £9000 and Dream-A-Way
would like to pay special thanks to David and Gill Freeman, the MITIE
Group, MJ Stevens, Rodrigo Villegas and the Andalucian Tourist Board for
their ongoing kind and generous support without whom this event would be
unable to hold its place as one of the most prestigious Golfing events on
the South West calendar.
The management and staff at Woodbury Park once again ensured that everyone
had an exceptional time and Dream-A-Way have already reserved Friday 16th
September 2011 for their 16th annual classic at this superb venue.
Chairman Jeff Merrett said “ Once again we presented a fantastic day out
for golfers from all over the country. Woodbury Park, as always, excelled,
and made sure that everyone enjoyed a memorable time. With the support of
many local and national companies Gill and David Freeman presented an
amazing prize table. We are already planning our 16th golf classic back at
Woodbury Park on 16th September 2011”.

Overall Men's winner Simon Kirby is presented with his well-earned
prizes.
