HMS Defender / Dream-A-Way Partnership Launches!

A NEW partnership between award-winning charity Dream-A-Way and the Royal Navy's new destroyer, HMS Defender, has been launched.

HMS Defender supports Dream-A-Way The ship's Senior Naval Officer and Lieutenant met Dream-A-Way Chairman Jeff Merrett and local supporters at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Friday 10th September 2010 to seal the deal.


HMS defender launched on the Clyde on 21st October 2009 and is affiliated with Glasgow and Exeter. It is the fifth Type 45 anti-air destroyer built for the Royal Navy and is sister ship to HMS Daring, Dauntless, Diamond and Duncan. Defender and her sister vessels of the class are the largest and most powerful air defence destroyers ever operated by the Royal Navy and the largest general purpose surface warships (except aircraft carriers and amphibious ships) to join the fleet since WW2. Defender is currently undergoing sea trials and final fitting before its official commissioning scheduled for 2012.
