HMS Defender / Dream-A-Way Partnership Launches!
A NEW partnership between award-winning charity
Dream-A-Way and the Royal Navy's new destroyer, HMS Defender, has been
launched.
 |
The ship's Senior Naval Officer and Lieutenant met Dream-A-Way Chairman
Jeff Merrett and local supporters at Exeter Golf and Country Club
on Friday 10th September 2010 to seal the deal.
HMS defender launched on the Clyde on 21st October 2009 and is
affiliated with Glasgow and Exeter. It is the fifth Type 45
anti-air destroyer built for the Royal Navy and is sister ship to
HMS Daring, Dauntless, Diamond and Duncan. Defender and her sister
vessels of the class are the largest and most powerful air defence
destroyers ever operated by the Royal Navy and the largest general
purpose surface warships (except aircraft carriers and amphibious
ships) to join the fleet since WW2. Defender is currently
undergoing sea trials and final fitting before its official
commissioning scheduled for 2012.
Dream-A-Way is extremely proud to be supported by Defender and her
crew and look forward to a long and prosperous friendship. |
