Teddy Bears jump to aid of local Charities
Shoppers in Exeter High Street were recently amazed and puzzled by the
sight of a Teddy Bear doing a parachute jump from the roof of the Guildhall.

It was to launch the Teddy Bear Parachuting event being organised by the Rotary Club of Exeter (Southernhay) and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service which will take place on Cathedral Green on June 19th. However the launch did not go quite as planned . Teddy was dropped from the Guildhall roof by Rotary’s John Burgoyne, but he was caught by a gust of wind and got hooked up on the spikes on a ledge on the building’s historic facade. Fortunately he was within reach of one of the windows and was soon rescued. After some first aid and parachute line untangling by John, Brave Teddy was again launched into the air and floated safely to ground where he was given a hero’s welcome by the City’s Lord Mayor Councillor John Winterbottom . |
| The event is being staged to benefit four
charities including Dream-A-Way and the South West MS Centre as well
as the Cathedral’s Third Millennium Campaign and Child safety Week. To
take part children need to register their Teddy Bear to parachute from
a fire service platform high above Cathedral Green. Each bear needs to
raise at least £10 in sponsorship. To take part call 07712 927072 or download your entry form from www.readyteddygo.info You can download the event poster in PDF format here (Right Click >Save As) |
